This position directs the overall operations of the Oncology Services program and is responsible for the day to day patient care management, safety, and experience of patients with cancer and hematologic diseases undergoing chemotherapy, and infusion therapy. The incumbent is responsible for the clinical and administrative components of the quality of patient care, personnel management, and quality assurance. Provides operational guidance and leadership to Clinical Managers and Charge Nurses; ambulatory oncology nurses and clinical staff; collaborates with clinical services in the budgetary, research, and clinical performance improvement activities; while striving for optimal outcomes for staff and patients. Reports to Chief Nursing Officer on all nursing practice and care issues.
Startup and implementation of new medical oncology clinic, chemotherapy and infusion services.
Assesses and evaluates patients with acute and chronic problems related to cancer and cancer therapies according to standardized nursing procedures.
Provides direct patient care to oncology and hematology patients receiving outpatient infusion and other therapies as required by caseload and staffing needs.
Supervises nursing and other clinical staff in the provision of quality, cost-effective ambulatory oncology patient care in accordance with standards of practice and department policies and procedures.
Directs staff in collaboration with laboratories, pharmacists, physicians and internal and/or external clerical staff to maintain timely and appropriate implementation of patients’ orders/regimens.
Provides clinical perspectives for pharmacological and/or billing situations requiring group conversations and decision-making.
Oversees Oncology Services program regulatory standards, to assure current and future readiness related to programmatic issues and accreditation.
Provides clinical input into the risk assessment and counseling aspects of the Oncology Services program, as well as palliative care provisions.
Oversight of continuum of care service lines within the Oncology Services program, i.e., survivorship care plans, prevention programs, patient navigation processes, psychosocial distress screenings and referrals, spiritual care, nutritional care.
Works closely with the Oncology (liaison) physician, Ambulatory Care Medical Director, and Certified Tumor Registrars, in conjunction with administrative director(s), for overall program cohesiveness.
Directs the correct documentation requirements to support charge codes and educates all staff in correct procedures.
Identifying and coordinating the appropriate and necessary patient teaching.
Maintains effective staff coverage for Oncology services by assuring that oncology nursing care is provided by nurses with specialized knowledge and skills.
Monitors and evaluates patient satisfaction.
Participation on various hospital committee/clinical and leadership and provides staff training/in-services as required.
Hires and coordinates training for all clinical personnel.
Performs other duties as assigned.

The individual shall perform a variety of responsible nursing care procedures requiring professional knowledge and consideration specific patient conditions and treatments and ability to work independently in completing assignments. The incumbent shall perform duties as assigned and ensure quality patient care despite the situation encountered, be it routine or emergent. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Requires the ability to handle multiple assignments, balance priorities, and make sound decisions.
This position requires an individual of high energy that can maintain a long and flexible schedule to meet department and organizational requirements. Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time, able to hear and talk over the telephone and in person with others. The work includes walking, standing, bending, and carrying items such as portable laptop, office material, and books.
Contacts often require tact and sensitivity as those related to stressful situation such as death, dying, and catastrophic illnesses. Must be able to prioritize and use good judgment. Must be able to collaborate with professional personnel on a wide variety of complex Oncology Services’ program issues.
The incumbent oversees and directs patient care management, safety, and experience of patients undergoing chemotherapy, and has a very high impact on the quality of patient treatment and care at TCRHCC.

Must have valid, current, full and unrestricted Professional Nursing License to practice nursing in any state of the United States of American, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or territory of the United States
Must maintain and have a current valid BLS Certification by the American Heart Association
Must earn the following two credentials within two (2) years of employment at TCRHCC:
Oncology Certified Nurse ® certification from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) and
Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card from the Oncology Nursing Society
Must have five (5) years’ practice experience as a nurse in the acute care and/or ambulatory care setting including three (3) years’ of oncology experience, and two (2) years of healthcare managerial experience Must have experience in all routes of infusion therapy, including peripheral lines, PICCs, implanted ports and other central venous access.
Other Skills and Abilities:

Strong networking and relationship skills with demonstrated ability to work with staff, physicians, patients, and the general public
Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiologic and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment
Possess understanding of Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Oncology Nursing, Oncology Social Work, Cancer Registry data collection, interpretation and reporting
Highly motivated, self-directed individual with a demonstrated understanding of leadership and management in cancer care service delivery
Ability to direct care appropriate to support the specific populations served in Oncology Services
Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences
Excellent writing, communication, and computer skills
Master’s Degree in Nursing or other healthcare or human services related field
Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card
Five (5) years’ experience in Oncology/Hematology office management and program startup and implementation experience is highly desirable.

Ability to speak Navajo
