San Mateo County Health's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) Division has exciting opportunities for three experienced psychiatric nurses to work in Behavioral Health and Recovery Services as members of one of our interdisciplinary teams.
Community Mental Health Nurses provide psychiatric assessment, treatment planning, care coordination, medication therapy and individual, group and family counseling. Our nurses work with acute hospitals and community resources to coordinate clients' clinical care and recovery services.
Two of the positions are within one of our five outpatient regional clinics within the County of San Mateo, providing services for adult clients with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders and complex medical conditions. The third position is in Total Wellness, an integrated behavioral health and primary care program.
We have one full-time vacancy in our adult outpatient clinic for the Northern region of the County, North County Clinic, in Daly City. North County Clinic is the largest of our five regional outpatient clinics. A second full-time vacancy is in our adult outpatient, Coastside Clinic in Half Moon Bay. Coastside Clinic serves clients from El Granada to Pescadero and is unique in that it provides services to a rural part of the county, serving a large Spanish Speaking population and a large migrant farm worker population and their families. The third 0.8 FTE vacancy is in Total Wellness, our integrated behavioral health and primary care program.
The ideal candidates will possess:
Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing is preferred but not required
Skills in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with families and consumers
Knowledge of current psychiatric nursing practice, including psychopharmacology and the medical issues associated with serious mental illness
Knowledge of the behavioral health needs of adults with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders
Knowledge of the principles of psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery
Experience in providing individual and group skill-based psycho-education
Experience working in an outpatient community mental health setting
Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team as a direct service provider
Minimum of one-year of experience in an outpatient community mental health setting is required
Bilingual Spanish skills preferred
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Nursing; one year of nursing experience in an outpatient community mental health setting; and a California license as a Registered Nurse. Requires knowledge of current psychiatric nursing practices, including psychopharmacology and the medical issues associated with serious mental illness; behavioral health needs of adults with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders; the principles of psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery; principles of hygiene, nutrition, parenting and health practices; social and physical aspects of mental and emotional disturbances; basic techniques and dynamics of individual and group therapy; community resources available for treatment of clients; and laws that govern psychiatric mental health nursing and the treatment of the mentally ill.
